Ammonites are cephalopod fossils. They disappeared from the planet almost at the same time as the dinosaurs. Each one you will hold in your hands is therefore over 200 million years old. Throughout history, several symbolic meanings have been associated with this fascinating fossil: for the Greeks, it ensured peaceful sleep; in ancient China, it protected against the evil eye; and so on. Pliny the Elder referred to this gem as "Ammonis cornua," meaning horn of Ammon, in reference to the Egyptian god Ammon, who was often depicted with ram's horns.
