Ammonites are fossilized cephalopods. They disappeared from the planet almost at the same time as the dinosaurs. Each one you hold in your hands is therefore over 200 million years old. Throughout history, several symbolic meanings have been associated with this fascinating fossil: for the Greeks, it was believed to bring sweet sleep, in ancient China, it protected against the evil eye, etc. Pliny the Elder referred to this gemstone as "Ammonis cornua," meaning Ammon's horn, in reference to the Egyptian god Ammon, who was often depicted with ram's horns.
