Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate whose name comes from the Greek words "rhodon," meaning "rose," and "khroma," meaning "color." Rhodochrosite was highly prized by the Inca Empire. After its fall, this magnificent gemstone was forgotten, and it wasn't until the 18th century that rhodochrosite regained prominence.
