Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate whose name comes from the Greek "rhodon" meaning "rose" and "khroma" meaning "color". Rhodochrosite was greatly appreciated by the Inca Empire. With its fall, this magnificent gemstone was forgotten, and it wasn't until the 18th century that Rhodochrosite returned to prominence.
