"Apricot Agate" is a commercial name for this particular shade of Agate. The name Agate was given to this beautiful gemstone by the Greek philosopher and naturalist Theophrastus between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. He found this stone near the Achates River (now called Dirillo) in Sicily. The inhabitants of the time already knew and used Agate for decorative purposes but had not given it a name. Agate forms mainly in volcanic environments. A silica-rich liquid infiltrates empty pockets within the rocks. Due to pressure and temperature conditions, a crystallization process will occur. Agate forms layer by layer. For each layer, some chemical elements will vary or change in concentration. Thus, in this gem, colors and tones succeed one another to create stones with unique patterns and hues.
