Pyritized Ammonites are true marine fossils, where the animal's shell has been naturally replaced by Pyrite over millions of years. They are born in rare geological conditions, offering these ancestral spirals a unique golden luster. Ammonites are cephalopod fossils. They disappeared from the planet almost at the same time as the dinosaurs. Each one you hold in your hands is therefore more than 200 million years old. Throughout history, several symbolisms were associated with this fascinating fossil: for the Greeks it allowed for peaceful sleep, in ancient China it protected against the evil eye,... Pliny the Elder referred to this Gemstone as "Ammonis cornua" which means Ammon's horn in reference to the Egyptian god Ammon because he was often depicted with ram's horns.
