Petrified wood is believed to have originated over 200 million years ago. At that time, large forests were reportedly buried under enormous layers of sediment. A mineral-rich liquid then slowly infiltrated this structure by capillary action. The wood turns to stone but retains its texture. This is the birth of petrified wood, also called fossilized wood. The color of petrified wood is not its original color. It actually depends on the chemical composition of the liquid that allowed its transformation.
