Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate whose name comes from the Greek "rodhon" meaning "rose" and "khroma" meaning "color". Rhodochrosite was highly prized by the Inca empire. After its fall, this magnificent gemstone fell into oblivion, and it was not until the 18th century that Rhodochrosite returned to prominence.
