The name Lapis-Lazuli comes from the Latin word "lapis" meaning "stone" and the Arabic "azul" meaning "blue". In ancient Egypt, this beautiful gemstone represented power and was highly prized by the pharaohs. Lapis Lazuli was long ground into powder and used to create the color blue. It was not until the 18th century that this pigment was synthesized.
