The word Fluorite comes from the Latin "fluere" meaning to flow, because this stone has an extremely "low" melting point (around 1400 °C). In ancient Egypt, Fluorite was used to create protective amulets, small sculptures of Gods, and other decorative objects. In the Middle Ages, this beautiful gem was called "flower of ore." Today, Fluorite is widely used in industry. It is a component of opaline glass (often sold as an imitation of Opal), fiberglass, and when melted, it also serves as a flux for steel manufacturers.
