Also called sea lilies, crinoids are marine animals that lived more than 500 million years ago. Their elegant, flower-like silhouette actually conceals a delicate calcareous structure. Fixed to the seabed, they captured food with their branching arms. Today, their fossils offer us a fascinating fragment of life's history, frozen in stone.
