Petrified wood is said to have originated over 200 million years ago. At that time, vast forests were buried under enormous layers of sediment. A mineral-rich liquid then slowly infiltrated this structure by capillarity. The wood turned to stone but retained its texture. This is the birth of silicified wood, also known as petrified wood. The color of petrified wood is not its original color. It actually depends on the chemical composition of the liquid that allowed its transformation.
