Mookaite extraction is complex because it is done in decomposed radiolarian clay, at the bottom of a small stream. The rock crumbles easily, especially pieces rich in Chert, which are more fragile. Conversely, those containing more Chalcedony are harder (7 on the Mohs scale) and can be cut and polished.
