Peridot, like diamond, is among the stones that form deepest within the Earth's mantle. In ancient Egypt, it was attributed with all sorts of mystical properties, including the ability to ward off bad dreams. It was even nicknamed the "Stone of the Sun." Strongly associated with volcanic activity, peridot fell as a rain during the 2018 eruption of the Kilauea volcano.
