The name Lapis-Lazuli comes from the Latin word "lapis" meaning "stone" and the Arabic "azul" meaning "blue". In ancient Egypt, this beautiful gemstone represented power and was highly prized by pharaohs. Lapis-Lazuli was long ground into powder and used to create the color blue. It was not until the 18th century that this pigment was synthesized.
