Apophyllite belongs to the Phyllosilicate family. The French mineralogist René Just Hauy gave it its name in 1806. The word Apophyllite comes from the Greek "Apophyllos" which means "it flakes off in lamellae" in reference to the fragility of this beautiful gemstone. It was often confused with Rock Crystal. It is believed that this stone was used in India by healers who attributed to it, among other things, the ability to facilitate dialogue with the higher world.
