Smoky Quartz owes its beautiful color, which can vary from light brown to dark, almost opaque brown, to natural irradiation. In the 12th century, in China, Smoky Quartz was cut into plates and used to create sunglasses. In the 19th century, this beautiful gemstone was said to be highly prized by fortune tellers, who preferred it to Rock Crystal because its captivating color concealed secrets from the uninitiated.
