The word Fluorite comes from the Latin "fluere" which means to flow because this stone has an extremely "low" melting point (around 1400 °C). In ancient Egypt, Fluorite was used for making protective amulets, small sculptures of Gods and other decorative objects. In the Middle Ages, this pretty gemstone was called "flower of ore". Nowadays, Fluorite is widely used in industry. It is one of the components of opaline glass (often sold as an imitation of Opal), fiberglass and, when melted, it also serves as a flux by manufacturers of steel objects.
