The name Turquoise means "Stone of Turkey" because this little treasure was brought back to Europe by the Turks during the Crusades. Turquoise was already worn in ancient Egypt. Pharaoh Tutankhamun's mask, for example, was set with several Turquoises. The Navajo people saw this gemstone as a piece of the sky that had fallen to earth.
